How Spinal Energetics Helped Me Heal from the Inside Out

I’ve always been drawn to gentle, holistic ways of supporting my mental and emotional wellbeing—especially when it comes to anxiety. Over the years, I’ve explored meditation, breathwork, journaling, and mindfulness. Each of them offered something valuable, but I still felt like there was a deeper layer I couldn’t quite reach.


When spinal energetics was recommended to me, it came at a time when I felt disconnected from my body. My mind was constantly busy, my nervous system felt overstimulated, and no matter how much “inner work” I did, I couldn’t fully settle. I didn’t want another coping tool. I wanted something that could help my body release what it was holding, not just manage the symptoms.


What Is Spinal Energetics?

Spinal energetics is a somatic and energetic healing modality that works with the nervous system and the energetic field surrounding the spine. Rather than talking through experiences or analyzing emotions, this approach allows the body to lead the healing process.


Through gentle touch, or sometimes no physical contact at all, the practitioner supports the body in moving energy along the spine. This can help release stored emotions, stress, trauma, and tension that may be lodged in the nervous system without us even realising it.


If you’ve experienced Reiki, spinal energetics may feel familiar, but for me it felt more embodied and physical. The body often responds with spontaneous movement - stretching, gentle waves, shaking, or deep breaths—as it releases and reorganises itself.



My First Session: Letting the Body Lead

Going into my first session, I had no real expectations. I assumed I’d lie still, maybe feel relaxed, and that would be that. What actually happened surprised me.


As the session unfolded, my body began to move on its own. Gentle swaying turned into deeper stretches, spontaneous sighs, and subtle movements I wasn’t consciously controlling. It felt instinctive, almost like my body knew exactly what it needed once it was given permission.


I wasn’t “doing” anything. I wasn’t trying to heal or fix myself. I was simply allowing and that felt incredibly powerful.


After the session, I noticed a tangible shift. My chest felt lighter and more open. My breath moved more freely. And perhaps most noticeably, my mind was quieter. The constant background noise of anxiety had softened.



The Benefits I’ve Noticed Over Time

As I continued with spinal energetics, the benefits became clearer and more integrated into my daily life:

  • Reduced anxiety and reactivity: I feel less triggered and more able to respond calmly.

  • Nervous system regulation: My body settles more easily after stress.

  • Emotional release without reliving stories: I don’t need to talk through or rehash experiences for them to move.

  • Improved grounding and presence: I feel more anchored in my body and in the moment.

  • Greater self-trust: I’ve learned to listen to my body rather than override it.


What surprised me most is how cumulative the effects are. Each session builds on the last, gently unwinding layers without force or overwhelm.



Why Spinal Energetics Feels Different

One of the things I appreciate most about spinal energetics is that it doesn’t require effort. There’s no pressure to “figure things out” or articulate emotions. Your body already holds the intelligence, it just needs the right environment to release safely.


I’ve come to see spinal energetics as a form of embodied meditation. It’s a space where I can drop out of my head and into my body, where healing happens not through doing, but through allowing.
